Sunshine Sessions Day Rave Returns to Cavalaire Square This August

There’s a new kind of Sunday morning happening in downtown New Port Richey, and it’s not a farmers market or a church brunch crowd — it’s a rave, just moved to 11 a.m. Sunshine Sessions is a family-friendly, all-ages daytime music series taking over Cavalaire Square on the second Sunday of the month this summer, with the August date landing on Sunday, August 9, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The format is exactly what it sounds like: local DJ Heather Effie curates house music and “daytime rave vibes” for two hours in the middle of the square, with bubble machines, affirmation cards, giveaways, and wellness-themed activities woven in around the dancing. It’s built to be gentle rather than a nightclub scene dropped into daylight — something kids, parents, and grandparents can all show up to without anyone needing a babysitter or a fake ID.

The series launched this summer backed by the City of New Port Richey’s Cultural Affairs Committee. “Sunshine Sessions is about bringing people together through music in a way that feels open, welcoming, and a little unexpected,” said Courtney King-Merrill, the city’s Cultural Events Coordinator. City Manager Debbie L. Manns has framed the broader push similarly, noting that events like this one help “activate our public spaces, support local businesses” and give downtown a reason for foot traffic outside of typical evening events. After August, the series has one more scheduled date this run: Sunday, September 13.
