Pasco County doesn’t run short on ways to keep the kids busy on a Saturday, and a lot of the best options don’t cost much more than a tank of gas to get there.
A Few Reliable Weekend Picks
SunWest Park in Hudson is one of the easiest wins for families. The spring-fed lagoon stays calm enough for younger kids, there’s a playground and volleyball court right on the sand, and older kids can burn off energy on the cable wakeboard park or paddleboards. It functions like a beach day without the drive to the coast, and the whole family tends to find something to do there.
For something a little different, the Central Pasco and Gulf Railroad runs train rides through Crews Lake Park on the second Saturday of every month. It’s a small, low-key event — a suggested donation of at least a dollar is the going rate — but it’s the kind of thing that tends to be a bigger hit with young kids than parents expect, and it’s an easy add-on to a regular trip to the park.
Pasco County’s public libraries are also worth remembering as a weekend option, especially on a rainy one. Most branches run regular programming for kids ranging from infants through teens, and several locations have adaptive toys and a seed library on top of the usual book programs. It’s free, air-conditioned, and easy to work into a weekend that already has other plans on it.
And if the weekend lines up with one, the weekend market at the Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel is worth a walk-through — local vendors, produce, and enough going on to keep a stroller-aged kid entertained while the adults browse.
